From: Anastasia
“You have one new message,” Anastasia listens to her voice mail from a remote location. In fact, were one to call the number, no phone would ring in the immaculately clean, barely furnished small apartment. The work visa that got her into the country would soon be changed over to a permanent resident status without the usual government delays that mortals must endure, and the identity allowed her to set up conveniences like phone service, electricity, and a place to house them.
She retrieves the message and returns the call. “Yes, is Isabel in? This is Anastasia, the French tutor you called.”
“Oh, hi, yes. So, you’ll tutor me in the SMU library then?” Isabel’s voice squeaked with a slight southern accent. “If I don’t pass French, my gpa’s gonna drop so much I’ll hafta transfer.” The little Texas girl sighed. “Momma would not be happy, and daddy would have my hide.”
“Do not worry, Isabel. We will have you so fluent that Frenchman will ask you what vineyard you grew up in. Ce soir à la bibliothèque?” Anastasia asks with a perfect southern French accent.
“Um. Lesee. That was ‘Meet tonight at the library’ right, um, Ana?”
“Anastasia, and yes it was,” The Tremere answers with seeming amusement.
“Oui et merci,” Isabel answers, managing to mask her drawl.
“Very nice. I look forward to meeting you,” Anastasia and Isabel exchange good-bye’s, and later, hello’s and all manner of words and ideas in the language of love.
