From: The Wildchilde
The Gangrel peeked into each open-ended cage with a bright, white-eyed gaze. She always loved going to the pet store as a mortal, and little had changed in that regard. The wriggling puppies, the skittish kittens, the inquisitive birds, and even the slinky lizards fascinated her with the lure of a child...and that was BEFORE she attained the ability to communicate with them. Now, she could use her new power like a child with a new toy, magnifying the enjoyment of this amusement to a thousandfold.
She had been here once per week at least, trying to speak with each of the adorable little animals...as a former biology major, she wondered if humankind could benefit from being able to actually talk to the critters they studied rather than pose hypotheses...perhaps doing so might dissuade them from using these simple creatures in the experiments they subjected them to...nah. Vamps did it to mortals and each other, why should mortals be any different?
A pair of large blue eyes locked onto hers, the slitted pupils being an eerie grey rather than black. Her coat was the purest black, but her shape was that of a regal Siamese...she must have been the product of a black Tab mixed with a purebred Siamese...the effect was quite striking, indeed. With a faint smile, the vampire leaned closer, preparing to speak, before she was cut off with-
"Pretty..." came the innocent little message.
"And who are you, little wriggler?" Sally asked.
"I am me," the tabby replied.
"Well, Me, I am Sally."
"Me love Sally," the kitten declared with heart-melting cuteness.
"Oh you DO, do you?" the neonate teased. "But you don't even know me."
"Umm...Me love Sally anyway!" came the reply. How can you argue with that kind of logic? Unconditional love, though...it was so hard to find in mortals and vampires, yet the Beasts we emulated the dark characteristics of possessed it in abundance.
"Well...such a charmer..." she mused as turned over the tiny feline and tickled her ribs with deft, wiggling fingers as the kitten's eyes widened and playfully scratched the vampire's hand with all four paws while gnawing on her thumb arduously. All in all, the entire scene was sweet enough to send a non-diabetic into insulin shock.
The Kindred scooped up her little companion and brought her to the shopkeeper. She knew she probably shouldn't be doing this...she was a vampire, after all...but to have such an endearing friend who was still living tugged at her heartstrings. "What's the story with this one, anyway?" Sally asked as the tiny kitten wrestled and rolled around with her thumbs.
"Ahh...that one is Greymalkin. Named her for her eyes. She's just been weaned, not trained, but she's had her shots and is in perfect health. Want her?" the vendor asked hopefully.
"Yes," she replied with a smile, gathering up a small cage, food, water/food bowls, a dozen toys and a cozy little mini-couch and blanky to sleep in...this kitten was going to be spoiled rotten. She could see it. Of course, the name, Greymalkin, was the perfect name for a vampire's cat...the witch's attendant cat of old, made modern reality.
She idly wondered if it was possible to ghoul this adorable little creature the way Lyness had her for a short time...
This was going to be fun.
