How To Make Friends in DbN

---Rick's response to a newbie, whom he hopes will continue to be a part of DbN ---

Well, not you, but there are many others who pop in, write up a cool introductory post, and then all but disappear.

This has caused a lot of veterans to take a "wait and see" attitude toward most new folks.  It doesn't pay to invest a lot of energy starting up interaction with a newbie then have that newbie lose interest.  Leaves you just hanging there...

So, since many veterans aren't gonna jump all over a newbie with interaction until the newbie shows a little staying power and an honest desire to interact, many newbies feel like they are not being encouraged, like they are being shut out by the vets.

It's sort of a vicious circle.

The burden of proof, so to say, is on the newbie's shoulders.  Stick it out for a while, make an effort at the weekly Chat sessions to talk to folks, and when you write try to write about Dallas and the kindred here.

Lot's of newbies lose me when they post their 5 page monologues of their character's history, or their character's interaction with vampires in Dallas that I've never heard of.

Everyone has an ego.  Remember that.  Wanna be popular and have your stories read?  Mention the other players characters in your stories!  It get's people's attention and make's 'em want to interact with you.

Well, this didn't start out as a "How to make friends in DbN" post, but there it is.  :-)
