Voice of Madness

'He' speaks into her mind again. "Interesting." Millie shrugs as she idly watches the other passengers on the bus who are quite unaware of her presence. One of them is traveling from the same point she is. He is going back to Dallas from the Terrell State Hospital, released after three years, so Millie has determined through frightening probes of his still quite unstable psyche. The voice in her head continues. "I shall send you back there in one month's time to see what effects the use of this dementation power has on the already mentally imbalanced. It should be interesting," the cold internal voice seems almost to try to console the morose Malkavian: she had promised herself that she would never inflict such a horrid thing on anyone again, not after Katarina. 'He' had convinced her otherwise. 'What result would it have?' he prodded, piquing her undeniable interest. 'It could have the outcome that psychotherapy attempts: freeing repressed memories and fears that lead to insanity.' Millie's eyes narrow even at the memory of 'his' use of the term. He almost did not say it around her. She was NOT insane. "Millie?" the voice asks of her silence.

"I'm here," she answers 'him' mutely, staring at her unaware, quite unstable traveling companion.

"So, you say his thoughts are of seeking his girlfriend from those many years ago, and murdering her?" the voice questions without shock.

"Yes," Millie speaks inside her head. She focuses on the released inmate's aura: a seething pit of hate and obsession. She dares to probe his thoughts again, finding his mind is filled with images both adorable and disgusting.

The clinical voice goes on about checking in on the matter and his fate in the city as the bus pulls into the station and all the passengers disembark. Millie's mind blurs. "Millie?" Images quicken and brighten. "Millie?" Sounds separate and heighten. "Millie?"

The Beast rises, the wretched alter ego. She can see it there, a translucent haze over the released ex-patient and his horrid intentions. Her rage coalesces, becomes a weapon to be hurled. "Someone else has already killed Kimberly," Millie taunts him unseen. In a blur, the man lashes out, shrieking, crying, pulling out his hair by bloody roots. Millie is caught in the backlash of her own beast unleashed upon another. With supreme force of will she flees the crowded station, barely aware of police officers retraining the neurotic, frenzied man.

Red haze fades to blue. "Millie? Millie?" The voice calls to her methodically.

"I think he is going back to the hospital," Millie finally answers when she is able. She surveys the damage around her, relieved at the absence blood and bodies... this time.
