Setting The setting is Dallas, current day, current time. If it was in the news occurring in Dallas this morning, we pretty much assumed it happened in Dallas by Night. It works well for operas, visiting dignitaries, etc. But of course, being in the World of Darkness, this is only the surface of the city. Underneath is the sinister intrigue, monsters, and unreal horrors of WoD. Vampires are real, and manipulate much of the cities politics, art, technology, police, and finance. The Prince of the city is Hanson Blake of Clan Ventrue. He has been prince for roughly 100 years. He is the first and only prince the city has ever had, being a relatively young city by vampiric standards. He is at the height of his power, with substantial influence in both mortal and kindred society. His rule is stern, but not harsh, and has kept the city relatively free of Anarch uprisings (unless he finds a way to permit it in order for them to let off their steam.) For further information on the setting as it differs from DbN, please see the Diversions from Dallas by Night page. ------ Well, that is just a summary. Now for a bit of out of character information: All characters are one of the seven Camarilla Clans, or humans, taken from vampires currently in Dallas, no vagrants or exceptions. As for how the game works, although we use table top rules for characters, much of the storyline is driven by free-form role-playing style. This game does not use experience points, but rather traits are gained and lost by game play and conversations with the Storyteller about what you are doing between stories in the chronicle. Please do not liter the Chronicle with posts for reasons of justifying trying to gain a dot in something. I am reasonable, emailing me that you are taking music lessons and perhaps a one line mention in another story is enough for a low level dot of music, for example. No applications are accepted for the game. All players must be invited or referred by other players. If you happen upon this chronicle, feel free to discuss our play in the OOC Forum, and make any petitions to play there after becoming intimately familiar with the game. There are no scheduled chats, but such may be arranged in the OOC Forum or via email to the Storyteller. There is no cast page. If you know for a fact someone is playing a certain character, you may contact them personally. If you are not sure, contact the Storyteller to interact with them. There are likely substantially fewer players than one might suspect, and the Storyteller has chosen to not reveal who is and is not a separate player character for role-playing realism reasons. Lastly, for all you players, this is a no-pressure game. If you do nothing for months, fine, Kindred sometimes do not change, grow, or even think beyond their next vessel for years of haze. Or, if you have dozens of stories to write that week, that is great also. This is a whole and complete work of art, and I encourage interaction among all the characters. For further information on the setting as it differs from DbN, please see the Diversions from Dallas by Night page. Please post any questions to the OOC Forum or email the Storyteller so that all may have answers, and so this Setting/FAQ/Rules page may be updated. Sincerely, |
