Report from Father Sorgia to Vicar-General Alister Paulin of the Order of the Griffin
Mid-summer 999AC

An uneventful trip from Alfhiem to the walls of the awaiting Aerie was a welcome change to the nightmare we had lived in our travels of late. Greeted by enthusiastic gate guards we gave the duty officer our brief report and then retired to our rooms to freshen up from the trail. It was not long before we were sat before the Vicar General, Knight Commander Dao Ling and Marshal Frederic Gutersen.

The 1st of Fyrmont: for hours we were questioned until the Vicar General was sure that his men had squeezed every last detail about our journeys from us. It was at this time that he informed us we would have two new members joining our party and that we could meet them downstairs.  He seemed very pleased and we were sent off to the vaults with the rod part to ensure its safety. At this place the three of us, myself, Alexander and Aria would spend many of our future days trying to unlock the mysteries of the rod segment.

Downstairs we met up with Mikhail, a stocky brick of a man who was reknowned for his great axe he carried everywhere and Vladimir a woodsman of some note in the Aerie.

On the 16th of Fyrmont a messenger from Alfhiem visited the Aerie and we once again attended the Vicar General as he listened to the elf. Apparently the Sage Fanuidol had discovered that the isle of Ierendi was the closest place to the fields of Pesh that had sunk beneath the seas so long ago. The wise sage felt that the Kingdom of Ierendi would be an ideal spot to look for another piece of the rod of seven parts. After dismissing the elven messenger the Vicar General informed us that a man by the name of Dylan in Specularum would be a good man to speak to about Ierendi. Our mission would be to investigate the Kingdom of Ierendi then for any clues as to any rods parts whereabouts, but considering it is such a small lead we would have another mission while we were there. We would see about setting up and maintaining a presence for the Church and the Order of the Griffin. The Vicar General informed us that we would hear more in Specularum from the Church as to how we would go about this.

Our travel to Specularum was uneventful besides meeting up with a man named Yusef and his dog Goober; both of who had been attacked and driven away from a work project where an inn was being constructed. Healing the dogs injuries and dispatching our scouts to verify his story we were soon assured that a large band of brigands had seized the fortification by strength. Listening to our scouts reports I conferred with my companions on a plan of attack and then set about delegating responsibilities. I feel looking back that when I noted the brigands outside of the wall rather than inside the wall that I should have pulled our forces back and changed our strategies, but perhaps God pushed me forth to ensure none would lose heart at the last moment.

We met with the brigands and were ordered by them to move on, as though we were beggars asking for scraps. I decided to determine the leaders alignment, be he good or evil, and when he saw me gesturing to the power of God he immediately yelled for his fellows to attack us. Perhaps I instigated this attack, perhaps not, it mattered little for we were prepared for such an attack. The battle was long and hard but God allowed us victory. One of our men was grievously injured and were it not for Gods grace would have died after the battle. Each of us was injured in some way from the arduous fight. My misplacement of our support members nearly cost us the battle, I will admit that. Next time I will question our scouts more thoroughly on the enemies placement! All told there was 16 brigands led by a priest of Halav each suited in chain mail with a broad sword and open faced helm. Well armed indeed and well trained. They lacked any travelling equipment or horses so we guess that perhaps these bandits had a home not too far off. Something that should be investigated soon while the trail is hot.

Yusef went about finding his lost work crew who had went down river in a raft for safety, he came back and we met his partner in business, Robin. We soon learned that the two of them were very influential businessmen owning no less than six taverns in Specularum, all by the name of the Greendoor Tavern. This was their most recent endeavor and they were very happy that we had saved it from ruination at the hands of the brigands. They as yet have no presence in Ierendi and said that should we need their aid after this endeavor is complete that they may well set up a place in Ierendi and pay a sum to the Order for their church that may be set up there. Content with our dealings and having done Gods work we continued on to Specularum the next morning after being heartily fed by the gracious innkeepers. We arrived in Specularum at dusk and were allowed entry into the city and made our way to the Orders building in the Temple district. Here we leave off and rest from our injuries for a time.
